why do i watch the news?

I mean, really.

Swastikas painted on a Jewish community center.

Unspeakable and just plain horrific.

A homeless man set on fire.

Can't quite wrap my brain around that. Setting a person on fire. For sport. No, not getting it.

President Clinton heckled with "You're a WAR CRIMINAL!"

Or at least I think that's what they said. Kinda hard to tell since I was all distracted by a hat. And in case I did hear them correctly, tell me, did I miss an illegal war back there in the 90's? Maybe I was blinded by the budget surplus or something.

Temperatures falling back into the teens.

Yeah, I'm going to bed.

I didn't even watch the news while I was ON the news. It's just 12 minutes of death, war, arrests, murder, rape, arson, violence, intolerance, and stupidity, followed by thirty relevant seconds of weather crammed into six minutes, a brief moment of sports, and then the kicker.

The "kicker" is the BS story at the end of the news that's supposed to make you forget everything you've seen, and stay pacified to not change the channel for Wheel of Fortune. The next time you see the "biggest ball of twine" story, or the hundredth birthday party, just turn the TV off.

Oddly (or perhaps not so, really) I had this very discussion this morning - the why on earth do I bother to delve into the news? thing.

It only serves to distress me.

Love, love. If I had a magic wand that worked, things would be evah so different.

Be like me and only watch Spongebob and Miami Ink. I think Spongebob and Patrick should get matching koi tats to celebrate their love.

Ignorance is bliss.

And what is most sad...

the news the negatively affected me the most was the part about the temperatures falling back into the teens.

I am either extremely self-centered or just plain numb. And not just from the long winter.

And this is another reason as to why I no longer turn the 6 o'clock news on. Well, any for that matter.

Here in WA state I keep hearing of racist slogans being tagged up on businesses owned by black folk, along with burning crosses in black folk's yards. I hate living in such an ass backwards place! Why bother with the news when you already know what will be reported?
